Dolomite Sydney

Why Dolomite Is the Perfect Natural Stone for Your Home

Achieve Stunning Results with Dolomite Marble Slabs, and More

Dolomite is a natural mineral composed of calcium magnesium carbonate, often quarried from dolomitic limestone. It is commonly used as a building stone and decorative material in the form of dolomite marble slabs and dolomite tiles. As a stone, dolomite is known for its natural beauty, with soft and striking grey and white patterns that bring character and style to any space. Much like marble in appearance, its surface lends to a stronger and more durable wear.

Hence its other name: Hard Marble. While dolomite is tough with an incredibly hardy composition and density, it's easy to work with. These reasons are why dolomite is renowned for crafting elegant slab flooring, kitchen benchtops, pathways, driveways, walkways, and other luxurious surfaces that bring timeless elegance to both indoor and outdoor living spaces.

If you're looking for an exceptional dolomite supplier that offers unbeatable prices, Art of Marble has got you covered. Dolomite is generally more affordable than high-end marble while offering superior durability, making it an excellent value for money. Our wide collection of dolomite slabs is sure to meet all your needs. Whether for residential or commercial spaces, we have the perfect solution to create the look you're after.

Frequently Asked Questions

On the Mohs hardness scale, dolomite rates between 3.5 and 4, while marble sits at around 3. That may sound like a small difference, but it translates to noticeably better scratch resistance in everyday use. Granite (6 to 7) and quartzite (around 7 to 8) are harder again, though they carry a different aesthetic. For homeowners who love the soft, veined look of marble but want a surface that holds up better over time, dolomite slabs offer that ideal middle ground.

Dolomite is naturally less porous than marble, which means it is more water-resistant than traditional marble and more resistant to staining. Its magnesium content also gives it better resistance to acid etching, so spills from lemon juice, vinegar, or wine are less likely to leave a mark compared to traditional marble. That said, dolomite is still a natural stone, so we recommend having your slabs professionally sealed after installation and resealed every one to two years depending on usage. Promptly wiping acidic spills is always good practice to keep your surfaces looking their best.

Day-to-day cleaning is simple. Use a soft cloth with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for natural stone. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, bleach, or any products containing acids, as these can dull the surface over time. For deeper cleaning, a stone-safe spray and microfibre cloth will do the job. If you have a honed finish on your dolomite benchtops, you will find it masks minor etch marks better than a polished surface. We also recommend using cutting boards and trivets as a precaution, even though dolomite handles heat and scratches better than marble, making dolomite suitable for even the busiest kitchens. These small habits will keep your dolomite slabs looking pristine for years to come.

Every slab of natural stone is unique, so seeing it in person is one of the most important steps. Our entire current stock is on display at our Sydney stone gallery located in Moorebank. During your visit, our team can walk you through the different dolomite varieties, help you compare finishes and veining patterns, and provide personalised advice based on your project.
